What is obstetrics?

Obstetrics is the medical specialty that deals with pregnancy, pregnancy-related concerns and childbirth. This ranges from family planning and fertility to labor and delivery and postpartum care. Obstetric services are provided by obstetrician-gynecologists (OB/GYNs)—doctors trained in both obstetric and gynecologic care.

Our OB/GYNs provide total women’s health services and obstetric care for communities across Middle Tennessee. Our goal is to ensure expectant mothers feel prepared for their special day. To do that, our experienced OB/GYNs work closely with each patient to create individualized plans for their pregnancies.

Prenatal and perinatal care

Our obstetrical care often begins well before a woman becomes pregnant. Women who are considering having a baby can receive preconception counseling. This service is especially beneficial to women who have health concerns. We also help women who are having difficulty getting pregnant.

We know that our patients experience some of the most invasive examinations, initially with doctors and nurses they have never met. That's why we explain what we are doing every step of the way. We educate patients to reduce uncertainty and anxiety and arm women with knowledge.

For the duration of pregnancy, we are here to listen, advise, reassure, comfort, coach and problem-solve. We meet with mothers-to-be regularly to check their health and their baby's growth. Outside of office visits, we are just a phone call away for any questions or concerns that may arise. We are committed to responding to calls quickly because we understand that getting timely information can make all the difference in keeping pregnancy stress to a minimum.

Labor and delivery services

We offer comprehensive labor and delivery services and comfortable amenities in our mission to make childbirth a positive, special experience. Our highly-skilled team of obstetricians, obstetric nurses, family physicians and pediatric specialists are recognized for their clinical expertise, compassion and commitment to delivering family-centered care. Our skilled obstetricians are in-house and available 24/7 to give patients immediate access to highly specialized medical or surgical care should they need it.

We also offer midwifery services at some of our facilities. Our certified-nurse midwives (CNMs) provide individualized care to patients throughout pregnancy and childbirth and offer hands-on support during labor.

Postpartum care

When it comes to pregnancy, we believe that care shouldn't end after delivery. Our team offers continued postpartum care and support after childbirth to mothers and their infants. We are available to answer questions, address concerns and provide support during the postpartum period.
